BIG DATA: MORE DATA OR MORE INTERPRETATION?

SCROLL

Many times, in Emexs Marketing we have the debate about how should be the reports we send to our customers. Those older customers will know that we have changed our format several times (we always try to improve it) and in each delivery they can see some change, some improvement. We also pass on this debate to you here.

We are in an era where we have data. So many. So many times we are confused or misinformed more than helping our business.

Of all the platforms and data sources we have connected to the website we must decide which metrics are essential, which are useful and which of them are informative but expendable.

To do this, it will help us to have our clear business objectives, to know what we want to aspire to at the end of the month, semester or year and to meet the metrics that help us visualize if our path approaches these objectives or not.

In addition, the different "Business Intelligence" that exist allow us to show such data in many possible ways. Sometimes it is better to have a simple metric with a comparator, but for other cases it will be much more useful to see the evolution of the last days, weeks, months, etc.

In our case we prefer to make a summary of the data that is useful, pleasing to the eye, representative of the situation and that allows us to make decisions based on them. We leave little room for conclusions or literature, since we prefer our work to be done day by day, based on the data we see also on a daily basis, and that the data obtained speak for themselves.

Do you think so too, or do you prefer more explanation and fewer numbers?

The future of big data will also go through the combined data, but this... we leave it for another article.
